A Message from IMD Executive Director, Dr. Suzet McKinney

SuzetMcKinneyPicDear IMD Partners and Friends:

For far too long, the IMD has been void of lunchtime food options within the District boundaries. Well those days are over! The Chicago City Council recently passed an ordinance that will now allow food truck to operate in the District. Earlier this month, the IMD hosted its first Food Truck Festival to celebrate the ban being lifted on trucks in the IMD. The four vendors completed 400 sales in what was a successful celebration for all. I’d like to thank all of our IMD partners who came out to enjoy a great lunch and support a great initiative. I’d also like to thank Alderman Jason Ervin for supporting the ordinance within City Council.

As always, we welcome your feedback as we look to expand and improve the food truck program. If you have any ideas, comments or questions, please reach out to IMD Communications Director Ryan Gage, and stay tuned for another food truck event in early 2017!

As we look back on 2016, I’m very proud of the work that was done to keep us moving in the direction of our future vision for the IMD. Many of our partners reached important milestones, and we are excited to see what the year ahead will bring. For our part, the IMD has a number of new and continued projects to look forward to, including infrastructure construction at Gateway and a plan to attract new business to the District that will help us grow and thrive.

Finally, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday week ahead and a warm welcome into the new year in 2017.

CTA Station Closures

Construction to improve the IMD Blue Line stops has officially begun, with the first phase of work calling for the temporary closure of the Paulina entrance and concourse in order to make it ADA compliant

The Paulina entrance and concourse will be closed for work from January 3, 2017 through January 13, 2017. No access to the stationhouse or concourse will be provided to the general public during this time. Signage will be provided to notify customers throughout the IMD and surrounding areas. No CTA Bus rerouting will be required, and therefore, construction will not impact any bus commutes.

The IMD Rehabilitation Project will require additional entrance closures to the station in the future in order to complete the necessary work. Future dates and durations for these closures are TBA; all information will be provided as it becomes available.
